On June 5, 2026, Security Officer Michael Aberman of The Hana Group was recognized with a Spot Award for his outstanding performance and dedication to duty at the FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
During the day of May 21, an outbuilding at the Air Marshal Training Center caught fire and required response from the local fire department. Although the fire was extinguished, the building was placed under fire watch due to the potential for rekindling.
When Officer Aberman reported for duty on the night shift, he was briefed on the incident and the additional fire watch requirements. Throughout his shift, he conducted the required patrols.
"When a building is placed on a fire watch, you're looking for signs of fire or smoke—simple as that," Aberman explained.
During one of his scheduled inspections, Officer Aberman observed smoke coming from the roof area of the building.
"I could just make out some smoke coming from the roof area," he recalled. "One of the things you look for, especially in a building that was previously on fire, is rekindling."
After notifying his supervisor, Lieutenant Hofmann, and conducting an assessment of the structure, Officer Aberman and Lieutenant Hofmann identified flames emerging from the roof. Emergency responders were immediately notified and arrived on scene to extinguish the rekindled fire before it could spread.
Thanks to Officer Aberman's quick action and unwavering vigilance, the fire department was able to respond rapidly and prevent what could have become a much larger incident.
"It was definitely caught at the right time," Aberman said. "If it was allowed to grow another hour or two, it could have been much more serious."
Officer Aberman's actions prevented significant property damage and the potential loss of the building. More importantly, they exemplify the professionalism and situational awareness that define Hana's security personnel.
