Hana Expands Footprint Across the Western United States

The Hana Group
June 18, 2026

The Hana Group has been awarded a sole-source security services contract supporting the U.S. Department of Energy's Western Area Power Administration (WAPA), marking an important milestone in the company's continued growth within the federal marketplace.

The award is significant because Hana was selected through a sole-source procurement, a process reserved for situations requiring a qualified and trusted partner. WAPA needed to replace an underperforming contractor while maintaining operational continuity across multiple locations. Hana's experience and 8(a) status made it well-positioned to meet that need.

"This opportunity reflects the confidence our customers place in Hana's ability to execute," said Kim Nguyen, Client Relations. “This win is about demonstrating that we have the operational expertise and trusted partnerships necessary to support critical federal missions."

The contract supports security operations across facilities in California, Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona, including locations that play an important role in protecting and supporting critical energy infrastructure throughout the western United States.

The award also establishes Hana's first operational footprint in Colorado, expanding the company's presence in key federal markets.

Adding to the award’s significance is Hana's partnership with Alutiiq: an established Alaska Native Corporation. The collaboration brings together two organizations with complementary strengths and shared commitments to serving their communities and the government. Through the partnership, Hana will oversee operations in California and Colorado, while Alutiiq will support operations in Arizona and Nevada.

Transitioning a multi-state security program presents unique challenges. The team must navigate varying state regulations, licensing requirements, and workforce considerations while ensuring uninterrupted service delivery. Even before contract performance began, Hana worked closely with the customer to refine requirements and establish a stronger foundation for long-term success.

These efforts reflect a core Hana strength: looking beyond the immediate task to understand the mission, identify risks, and develop practical solutions.

For Hana, the DOE WAPA award demonstrates the value of trusted relationships and operational excellence.
